Kansas Envirothon Registration Now Open

Posted Friday March 1, 2024

Envirothon is a competitive environmental learning opportunity for high school students. Testing is done in six areas: Aquatics /Ecology, Forestry, Rangeland Management, Soils & Land Use, Wildlife and a Current Environmental Issue that changes yearly. An Oral Presentation over the Current Issue is done only at the State Competition.

Dana Schmelzle, past Kansas Envirothon Chairperson, shared, “One of the great aspects of Envirothon is the problem solving. This is especially evident during the oral presentations given at the state competition. Each team is given a real-life scenario based on the current issue theme. The amount of research, cooperation, planning, and practice is always evident on the competition day.”

Follow Kansas Envirothon on Facebook for more information and event photos. If you would like to consider having a team in an upcoming Envirothon visit the Envirothon page on the KACD website.

Teams are made up of 5 high school students. Typically the students are from the same high school, but teams from 4-H groups, Scout troops, FFA teams and other organizations are allowed with prior approval from the Kansas Envirothon Committee. To start a team, find a group of students and/or advisors who are interested and enthused about natural resources. Contact your local county Conservation District and ask for their help in finding resource material, organizing some field days and for their financial support.

Registraiton is now open on the Envirothon page of the KACD Website through March 15, 2024 for teams who wish to participate in the April 3 and April 10 regional events.  The State Competition will be held April 24 at Camp Wood near Elmdale. The 2024 National Conservation Foundation’s (NCF) International Competition will be held in Geneva, New York July 28-Aug 3.
